Sun 7 April: KBCC fall just short in the Oxfordshire Indoor Final.

07/04/19

A youthful KBCC Indoor team just fail to chase down 142 against Wolvercote.

With 3 key members of the team who had taken KBCC to the final unfortunately unable to play in it, an inexperienced team took on Wolvercote, who had also only lost one game in the league.

Wolvercote batted first and scored rapidly, taking 20 off their last over to set a daunting target of 142 to win in 10 overs.  Jonny Warner got one wicket (caught behind by his dad !) and Joe Hornblow another with the other batsmen retiring.

Despite the early loss of Dougie Phillips, Jonny Warner and Ed Murray ensured the Kingston 'worm' was ahead of Wolvercote's, scoring a massive 32 off the 4th over. Ed was run out for 22 and Jonny had to retire on 26 but JJ Smith and Joe Hornblow kept the run chase on track until Joe was out for  10 for hitting the ceiling (indoor rules !).  40 runs were needed off the last 2 overs;  David Warner was  adjudged LBW (for a quick 9) which brought Jonny Warner back in. 18 in total scored in the penultimate over needing 22 off the last (or 21 for a super over) but sadly both Jonny (for 39) and JJ (for 19) were run out in the last over and Kingston fell 12 runs short. Nevertheless a great effort by a team of 6 with 3 teenagers in it !
